Sandakan is the second-largest town in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu City, located on the northeastern coast of Borneo in Malaysia. It is one of the main ports for the export of oil, tobacco, coffee, sago, and timber. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - Sandakan Memorial Park: A memorial dedicated to the men who lost their lives in the Borneo Death Marches during the Second World War. - Puu Gih Jih: A Chinese temple on top of a hill behind Sandakan that offers beautiful views over Labuk Bay. - St Michael and All Angels Church: A historic Anglican church and one of the oldest stone buildings in Sabah. - Sepilok: Home to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, where orangutans rescued from plantations and from being kept as pets are rehabilitated and reintroduced to the jungle. - Turtle Islands Park: A group of three islands in the Sulu Sea where you can see turtles laying eggs and observe turtle conservation efforts in action.
